The Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Operations and Performance Section, is looking for a motivated candidate for our Traffic Systems Control Specialist position. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will act as the project manager for PennDOT's Advanced Transportation Management System, Lane Reservation System, and Connected Vehicle Data Exchange. Your responsibilities will include conducting studies and data analyses, as well as reviewing system functionalities to pinpoint areas for enhancement and improvement. Each system is at the core of PennDOT's vision for enhancing real-time roadway operations and has a wide variety of established stakeholders within the public and private industry that provide many opportunities for unique engagement.

You will oversee the design and implementation of system upgrades and new features, through engagement with system users, the vendor, and other PennDOT traffic operations personnel and management. You will work will ensure the efficiency and timeliness of software maintenance, and to coordinate new intelligent transportation data integrations, user acceptance testing, and deployments. Furthermore, you will monitor and assist in resolving reported system issues, provide technical support to users, deliver public presentations, facilitate meetings, and lead training sessions.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

  REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
  QUALIFICATIONS
  Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  
  • Two years of experience as a Traffic Control Specialist involved in traffic signal design work. or
  • Three years of experience in traffic engineering work involving signal design and a Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering, mathematics or a closely related field. or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
